Class--the mainstream journalism teacher wants your articles and short blurbs for the yearbook for summer session 07....they are due in this coming week. Rewrite and polish, please, your short articles. I told her what you are writing and she is MOST interested in:


The Tom Wolfe GIRL OF THE YEAR style (4 paragraphs) short about a summer session student. (No names. And start with the adjectives).

Literary Journalism-- “the new journalism”-- came into its own forty years ago when a well dressed journalist, who has for years appeared in a white three-piece suit, matching hat and cane, coined the term. Author of the Electric KoolAid Acid Test and The Right Stuff, Tom Wolfe was, and still is, a darling of the urban intelligentia. His innovative article of 1964, THE GIRL OF THE YEAR, barrages the reader with adjectives and nouns—gradually easing into sentences, paragraphs, and quotes. This style is too much fun to resist—and ESL Journalists had fun copying it, writing about the current crop of “Baby Jane Holtzer-like” campus celebs this session. -------------insert paragraphs about people, Anna B’s, Paola's etc edit and get approval-----

Back when preparatory schools were the purvey of wealthy boys, when ‘diversity’ was measured by class background but not multicultural roots, secret societies held court within some of the already exclusive Greek fraternities. While today, students still pledge to fraternities and live in “frat houses” on many college campuses, they no longer exist at Phillips. Secret societies were phased out during the 1950s, and fraternities are gone now as well. But the buildings these clubs built, on sites purchased from the Academy for this purpose, still exist.
